One Finger on the Bias Slider
As AI labs absorb the independent voices I trusted, the supply of no-team signal keeps thinning.
Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic. Genuinely excited for him and what is coming ๐ ๐ ๐.
Also a quiet personal loss.
For a few years his interviews were the cleanest independent signal I had on what was actually happening in AI. Not a vendor pitch or a lab roadmap โ a thoughtful, well-calibrated read from someone with no skin in any single team’s game.
Now every interview could carry an Anthropic prior. That’s not a complaint about Andrej โ it’s how affiliation works. You can be honest and still be downstream of where you’re standing.
The bigger pattern: as the labs absorb the people whose takes I most trusted, the supply of “no-team” voices in AI keeps thinning. Not gone. Just rarer than it was last year.
I’ll keep reading. With one finger on the bias slider.
